About EchoPoint Chorale
The concept of EchoPoint Chorale began in the fall of 2016 when Heather and Bryan Helsel were approached by the Butler County Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Matthew Kramer, to create a community chorus to perform at their Veteran’s Day Concert.
Several years later, after starting a family, the Helsels volunteered to get a chorus together for the 2023 Holiday Traditions Concert, under the direction of Moon Doh. This first program featured an adult community chorus and a children’s chorus comprised of students from Marshall Middle School in the North Allegheny School District, where Heather is the choral director. The community chorus was welcomed back in 2024, with director Austin Chanu, and 2025, with director Moon Doh as a part of the Holiday Traditions concert.
In November 2025, the board of directors of the Butler County Symphony Association voted to create EchoPoint Chorale as a branch of the Symphony Association. This partnership ensures lasting collaboration between our organizations to promote quality vocal and instrumental music in Western Pennsylvania.
In May 2026, EchoPoint Chorale presented its first Spring Choral Concert entitled “From Earth To Sky.” The program highlighted music about water, pastures, wide open spaces, rocks, air, stars, and sky. The inspirational music was enhanced by a collaboration with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra string quartet and a talented local drummer.
The program was performed in Butler and Cranberry Township and was a part of the America 250 Steeples and Stacks celebration.
The ensemble currently fluctuates between 40-80 volunteer singers of varying ages and musical backgrounds. There is no audition, a minimal cost for music, and scholarships are available so there is no barrier for those who want to sing.
The Future
EchoPoint Youth Chorale (EPYC - pronounced ‘epic’) will welcome students grades 6-10 into a three part mixed ensemble. Rehearsals will happen once a week with a culminating spring concert. There will be a minimal cost for music and scholarships will be available.
Our hope is to launch EPYC in the spring of 2028.
More details to come!
